Evangelion 3.33’s Greatest Teaser Trailer Returns
The Trailer is Even Better Than the Movie
Just over a month ago, Evangelion 3.33’s Japanese DVD & Blu-ray trailer re-appeared on YouTube. You may not have noticed, but it has been missing since not too long after the discs dropped in Japan and hasn’t been available online since. Trust me, I have been searching. This Evangelion trailer is probably one of the best marketing pieces ever done for Evangelion, and was sorely missed.
Fans of the show and movies are pretty familiar with the abundant usage of classical musical pieces throughout the series. The teaser is arguably the best use of Beethoven. It opens with a solo of Beethoven’s Ninth accompanied by a subtle accompaniment of strings and woodwinds. All of this against merely the title of the film, Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo. It crescendos into the full orchestra as a flurry of images behind the ever shrinking logo. It is perhaps the best part of the entire film.
The old promo trailer appears to have come back up in anticipation of the next film. Evangelion 3.33 is the third in the four part series set out in 2007. The next highly anticipated film in the series is not scheduled until 2020. Over seven years after release of the last film, thirteen years after release of the first film, and a whole twenty five years after the original series aired. Evangelion fans are a patient fandom. Hopefully you still remember the story of Shinji Ikari, and the trails & tribulations he goes through in his tumultuous high school life.
If you never saw the trailer for Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo, do yourself a favor and check it out below. Hopefully you will remember the trailer more fondly than the actual movie it preceded.
