Gundam Is Coming for Your Wallet and Hobbies
The smallest Gunpla ever assembled.
Yesterday, Bandai put out a teaser of the second next big Gunpla project. Gundam is now getting into the tabletop and wargame hobby zone called Gundam Assemble. No longer just for looking pretty on a shelf in your home, you can now play with the beloved mecha franchise in a whole new way. The official Gundam Info channel on YouTube put out the Gundam Assemble teaser seen below.
The teaser shows off a handful of miniatures from different generations being played on a hexagonal playing surface. A ten-sided die is rolled from off-screen showing off the wargame aspects of Gundam Assemble. With the rolling of the die, I can see some imaginative folks brewing a mecha-style TTRPG using these figures.
In addition to the miniature models, the Gundam Card Game Channel on YouTube put out a complimentary promotion for the previously announced card game and an upcoming tie-in to the wargame. The second video shows off a player clipping pieces off a runner, assembling the gray pieces, and finally painting the miniature Gundam.
According to Bandai-Hobby.net, Gundam Assemble is a 50mm (~2 inches) tabletop miniature game featuring your favorite Gundams from the history of the franchise. Official rules and product information is to follow. Assemble looks to be taking one of the best parts of Gunpla, shrinking it down, and making into a viable competitor in the tabletop space.
